Sham Kwok-keung probably thought his dream of playing in the AFC Cup was dashed when the former Sun Pegasus forward saw his Playoffs goal rendered meaningless late last season, as the original Sun Pegasus – YFCMD Season Playoffs game was called off midway due to heavy rainfall. Two goals from now-teammate Fernando Pedreira in the subsequent rematch effectively sealed Sun Pegasus’ fate and sent them packing. However, joining Kitchee for the new season meant the local forward will not only receive the chance to participate in the AFC Cup but the AFC Champions League as well. Having joined up with his new teammates for Kitchee’s preseason training recently, Sham understands his first priority is to immerse himself into an already-solid Kitchee foundation. “I am new to the team and therefore it is up to myself to get to know the playing style and the movements of the team,” Sham pointed out. “It is very exciting to be part of the Kitchee squad who will play in the AFC Cup quarter-final and I certainly hope to help the team to achieve success in various regional competitions.” However, playing under the AFC spotlight does not seem to be the only thing that excites Sham for the new season, as the energetic attacker is visibly upbeat about training at Kitchee’s newly-opened Shek Mun training ground. “It is a very comfortable surrounding and makes you feel good about coming to training every day. I know most of the players in this Kitchee side anyways so that also makes life a lot easier when I signed up,” Sham assessed. “With our own training ground at our disposal, our training sessions are no longer subject to a time-limit and as players, we can now enjoy training on a quality surface on a regular basis.”
