Distinguished honors bestowed on Kitchee players,

Kitchee’s fabulous season just got better on Wednesday evening, as the Blues came out as big winner in the 2016/2017 Hong Kong Top Footballer Awards, with Kitchee players picking up a stunning ten honors. Midfielder Fernando Pedreira garnered the biggest spotlight on the evening by winning four awards alone, including the prestigious Footballer of the Year honor. Kitchee certainly had a bumper crop evening in this year’s Hong Kong Top Footballer Awards. Besides Pedreira winning the Footballer of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, Most Favorite Player and the Hong Kong Top Footballers awards, Helio Goncalves, Kim Bongjin, Huang Yang and Alessandro Leonardo all found themselves being named as Hong Kong Top Footballers. Leonardo also took home the Premier League Top Scorer honor, with twenty-one premier league goals netted in the campaign. After leading Kitchee to the incredible treble, head coach Alex Chu unsurprisingly was named as the Coach of the Year. With four distinguished awards under his name, Kitchee’s Fernando Pedreira was understandably overjoyed about the wonderful feat. “This is the greatest moment of my football career. I gave my best and dedicated lots of hard work to football. I have never thought about my chances of winning any individual awards, let alone four on one evening! I have to thank God for his blessing and at the same time, I also need to thank my wife and my baby for their support,” said the likable Brazilian. With the Top Footballer Award firmly held on his hands, Goncalves reflected on a rewarding season and attributed the wonderful achievements to his teammate. “This is my first time ever being named as one of Hong Kong’s Top Footballers. This is definitely a very special moment. I have to thank my teammates for all of their help and support during the campaign. I always try to stay consistent throughout the season and to avoid my form fluctuating too much. I did that for the large part of the season and I think that is why I won the award this time around,” the towering centre-back commented.
