Kitchee will embark on the journey of defending its BOCG Life Hong Kong Premier League title on Saturday afternoon by taking on Yuen Long at home in Mongkok Stadium. The home opener for the reigning treble winner will kick-off at 5:30pm. Kitchee head coach Abraham Garcia admits his eagerness to see the new premier league season getting underway. “After a long pre-season training, we are definitely ready to defend our premier league title by hosting Yuen Long at home. We will not be taking them lightly and have full respect for our opponent, but it is a good time for us to get going and we will be ready for any challenge on Saturday,” said the Kitchee chief. Veteran striker Jorge Tarres echoes the view of his head coach, as the sharp-shooter is chopping his bits to get involved against the New Territories side. “We are very excited about our first premier league game of the season and we have certainly put in a lot of work over the summer to get ready for this. Facing Yuen Long in the first game is not going to be an easy task and they will likely pack their own end very tightly and hit us on the counter-attack. Therefore we must try to move the ball quickly and hopefully, break them down by scoring the first goal early in the game,” revealed the Spanish forward. Kitchee hard-man Matthew Lam believes Yuen Long has the potential to cause Kitchee trouble over the weekend. “Over the past few seasons, Yuen Long has demonstrated time and time again to be a difficult side for anyone to play against. They tend to take points off the bigger teams and will likely try to do so against us this weekend. We definitely need to perform our best on match day, take control and play with high intensity because one lapse of concentration and Yuen Long can destroy your season with an upset,” admitted Lam.
