After nearly twenty days on the sidelines, Kitchee will return to competitive football on Saturday afternoon by taking on Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin in the HKFA League Cup. The Group A fixture will take place in Kowloon Bay Park and kick-off time will be at 2:30pm. The match against Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin will actually be Kitchee’s debut in this year’s League Cup and the reigning champion will undoubtedly be eager to get off to a quick-start with a victory over the district side. During the past two weeks, the local powerhouse has played in friendly matches against the Hong Kong Representative Team and the Hong Kong Football Club in order to stay in shape and therefore should not be rusty despite the time away from competitive football. Kitchee will also welcome back several players from international duty this weekend and head coach Abraham Garcia talks about the boost of having everyone back with the team. “We need to check with the returning players to find out their conditions and what kind of minutes they can handle this weekend,” explained the Kitchee chief. “Take (Lo) Kwan-yee and (Lam) Ka-wai as examples, the former did not play in the past two Hong Kong games while the latter started in Maldives but did not play against China. We need to see how we can balance their fitness levels and our tactical needs on match day in order to see how we can best utilize them.” Centre-back Kim Tae-min sheds light on what Kitchee has been working on over the past few weeks and has faith that his teammates can overcome Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin this weekend. “We have been training very hard over the past few weeks despite some of the players being away for international duty. Our midfield play is quite strong and our attacking form remains very good. We have also worked on a lot of short passes, as well as quick movements and the results are quite satisfying,” Kim revealed. “While some players might just be returning from their international commitments, I trust that they all have strong mentality and should be fit enough to handle this weekend’s match against Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin.”
