Handed an unexpected rest due to the midweek called-off game, Kitchee came out strong on Saturday afternoon’s premier league fixture and cruised past Hong Kong Pegasus in a commanding 3:1 victory, jumping straight back on the winning track. Kitchee had a glorious chance to open the score early in the game but Jared Lum’s cheeky flick shot over the Hong Kong Pegasus keeper was cleared off the line by an opposing player. However, the Blues are not to be denied and took the lead moments later with a spectacular free-kick by Fernando Pedreira from a super tight angle, putting Kitchee in front. The ever-dangerous Daniel Cancela then played a lovely one-two with a teammate on the left side before finishing off the attack with a cool strike, making it 2:0 for Kitchee. While Hong Kong Pegasus managed to pull closer with a penalty goal right before the half time whistle, Kitchee regained a two-goal lead early in the second half through Alessandro Leonardo and cruised towards the final whistle through a comfortable 3:1 victory. Reappearing on the scoresheet after a ten month absence, left-back Daniel Cancela dedicated his goal to his wife and kids. “My wife and two kids are actually on hand for the game and I have not scored since my second child was born. So this is the perfect timing for me to present them with a goal,” said the ecstatic Kitchee defender. “We spoke about how Hong Kong Pegasus is strong in the middle during our pregame meeting and that was the reason why we attacked the flanks. My goal is a credit to Sandro’s (Alessandro Leonardo) great pass and Fernando (Pedreira) works very well with me on the left side all the time. We certainly have a very strong squad in Kitchee and I am just glad to be playing with so many talented players.” Fernando Pedreira, who opened the score for Kitchee with a marvelous free-kick, claims his new born son has certainly brought him good luck. “I managed to score in the friendly game in Bangkok, Thailand and I am fortunate to find the back of the net again today. However, this is by no means an easy victory, as we have to work hard each and every day on the training pitch to make sure we dictate things during match time,” said the Brazilian schemer.
