Making a strong push for the top of the premier league table, Kitchee will host Lee Man Rangers at home on Sunday afternoon for another round of premier league fixtures. The match will take place in Mongkok Stadium and will go underway at 2:30pm. Entering the final stretch of the premier league season, Kitchee has been well and rested in March, as the Blues’ previous game was the memorable away victory over KMB Yuen Long two weeks ago. However, whether the Kitchee players can sustain their stellar form during the extended period on the sidelines might prove to be key to the Blues’ fate on Sunday afternoon. In addition, regulars such as Alexander Akande, Lam Ka-wai and Kim Dong Jin have all been bitten by the injury bug and will miss the weekend battle. It remains to be seen whether the rest of the squad can step up and overcome the void left by those three key players. Striker Rufino Segovia believes Lee Man Rangers is full of dangerous threats and Kitchee will be best served to stay alert throughout the game. “In Fernando Recio, Lee Man Rangers has one of the best centre-backs in Hong Kong, as well as the always dangerous Jorge Tarres up-front. Most of its players are also very quick and I expect them to bring a lot of pressure to our backline,” the Spaniard assessed. “Eastern Long Lions, our major rival for the premier league title, will lock horns with South China on the weekend. I do not know if Eastern will drop any points but for everyone in Kitchee colors, the only thing that we care about right now is to make sure we stay focused and play well against Lee Man Rangers on the weekend.” While welcoming the much-needed time for rest and recuperating, midfielder Lam Zhi Gin insists the side has been preparing feverishly for the Lee Man Rangers tilt and will not be settling for anything but three points. “After a busy midseason, the team is quite happy to receive some much-needed break from the hectic schedule, which should be a boost to our performance heading towards the final stretch of the season. We can ill-afford to drop any more points in the premier league title chase, therefore we are going to give our 120% and go for all three points in this game,” Lam said.
