Continuing its hot pursuit of the premier league top spot, Kitchee will return to home on Friday evening by hosting HKFC in the latest premier league fixture. The game is set to kick-off in Mongkok Stadium at 8pm. Boosted by a recent strong-run, Kitchee toppled BC Glory Sky away last weekend and will be facing relegation-threatened HKFC at home on Friday, with the Blues understandably be seen as the odds-on favorite of coming out on top. In-form striker Alessandro Leonardo picked up from where he left off before the international break and hit the score sheet once again in the last game, while veteran marksman Rufino Segovia claimed an impressive hat-trick last week against BC Glory Sky. Adding to Kitchee’s potent firepower will be the fit-again Alexander Akande, who has been back training with the squad for a while now. With all three goal-poachers on standby, there is every reason to believe that Kitchee will present the HKFC defense, which tops the league in goals-allowed, with all sorts of pressure. Goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng, who is set to play in his 250th game for Kitchee on Friday night, spoke about potentially reaching the milestone and achieving such a distinct honor. “I am still unsure what the coaches’ plans might be in terms of the starting lineup for Friday night. But simply able to represent Kitchee over the past twelve years and playing in all sort of different games for the Club have been a tremendous honor. I am extremely grateful to the Kitchee management, my teammates and the supporters for treating me like a family member over the past twelve years. Hopefully, we can pick up three more points on Friday night and push for the top of the league table,” Wang said. Striker Alexander Akande, who has been bothered by injury ever since the start of 2017, has resumed full training with the first team recently and even made the bench in last weekend’s victory against BC Glory Sky. The lanky striker stresses that his injury woes are well-past him and is relishing the opportunity to get onto the pitch and to help the team. “I am no long feeling any pain and whenever the head coach calls my number, I will be ready to get on the pitch and to fight for the team. It is true that HKFC gave us a bit of a problem earlier in the premier league but we will be playing Friday night’s game at home in Mongkok Stadium, therefore as long as we execute the coach’s game-plan on the evening, I am feeling optimistic about our winning chances,” Akande stated.
