After all the close battles that took place over the past few months, Kitchee is set to face Eastern Long Lions in the final round of the league fixture on Saturday afternoon, in what is shaping up to be the premier league title-decider. The highly-anticipated clash will take place in Mongkok Stadium and kick-off time will be 2:30pm. Kitchee currently trails Eastern Long Lions by a mere point in the premier league table, hence the plan for the upcoming game is rather clear, as only a victory and three points will be enough to see the Blues leapfrogging its nemesis and reaching the summit of the premier league table. In terms of head-to-head record, Kitchee and Eastern Long Lions have actually met up on three occasions this season in all competitions, with each side winning once, while drawing in the remaining fixture – a true testament to how evenly-matched the two teams are. However, Kitchee has found itself in an impressive run these days, chalking up nine consecutive victories in all competitions. Therefore with form and confidence both on a high for all Kitchee players, the Blues should have what it takes to seriously threaten a solid Eastern Long Lions side. Tenacious midfielder Jared Lum understands fully how important the upcoming game is for everyone associated with Kitchee and insists the Blues are ready for the tilt against Eastern Long Lions. “This game will virtually decide the outcome of the premier league title. Therefore it is a very important game for both Kitchee and its supporters. I know Eastern Long Lions only need a draw to clinch the title while we will need to go for all three points but that is not going to affect our mindset one way or the other. With the situation on hand, the onus is on us to go out, attack, come back with a win and get the job done,” Lum stated in a confident manner. Kitchee attacker Fernando Pedreira acknowledges Eastern Long Lions is a formidable side and maintains the Blues will not be taking the opponent lightly, despite Eastern Long Lions recently suffering two defeats in a row. “Eastern Long Lions have occupied the top of the table for the most part of the season, proving themselves to be a legitimate title contender. Therefore we are not going to take them lightly just because they have suffered two recent defeats,” Pedreira explained. “As a matter of fact, they are very dangerous when it comes to attack and counter-attack. Besides taking care of things defensively, we will also have to seize our scoring chances and try to establish an early lead.”
