Looking to hold on to its lead in the premier league title-chase, Kitchee turned it on once again in the latest premier league fixture, this time toppling the visiting Lee Man 4:1, while extending its winning streak to five games in all competitions. Facing Blues loanees Jorge Tarres and Ngan Lok-fung dressed in Lee Man colors, Kitchee did not show any sentiment and opened the score early through a Lam Zhi Gin low-drive. Midway in the first-half, Lee Man’s Victor Dos Santos broke behind the Kitchee defense, faced Blues custodian Wang Zhenpeng one-on-one but saw his shot wonderfully charged away by the courageous Kitchee keeper. Kitchee wasted no time and doubled its lead early in the second-half. Alessandro Leonardo picked up the ball through a Lam Ka-wai pass and curled a majestic shot into the back of the net. Moments later, Lee Man goalkeeper Felix Luk pulled out a sensational double-save to stop Lam Ka-wai and Lucas Da Silva from scoring. However, Kitchee went third-time-lucky, as Alessandro Leonardo was in perfect position to convert the rebound and made it 3:0 for Kitchee. On the 80th minute, Alexander Akande connected with Jared Lum’s tape-measured cross and smashed the ball into the net. The score was now 4:0 with Kitchee well in front. Late in the game, Lee Man’s Denis Lima broke the goose egg for the visitors but it was too little too late, as Kitchee cruised home through a convincing 4:1 victory. Midfielder Lam Ka-wai acknowledged Kitchee’s decent performance on Friday evening but also singled out the team’s sloppy defending late in the game as something that must be rectified. “Lee Man deployed a defensive unit that contained eight players, making things rather difficult for our attack,” Lam revealed. “Thankfully, the boys broke the game open early in the game, then expanded the lead quite early in the second-half, thus allowing us to cruise home with a rather huge score line.” “However, it should be noted that we seemingly took our feet off the paddle late in the game. That is something that we must correct heading into the next game.” Strike Alexander Akande got off the bench and scored his fifth goal of the season. The lanky striker attributed Kitchee’s recent run of high-scoring victories to the team’s overall attacking depth. “We have plenty quality attacking players in the Kitchee camp and it does not matter whether you are a starter here or a substitute, you can probably walk into the starting eleven of a lot of the other premier league sides,” explained the Kitchee speedster. “Therefore whenever we get the chance to play, every Kitchee striker tries his best to seize the opportunity, hoping to create scoring chances for the side and bringing home the goals.”
