Eager to wrap up the premier league title-winning season in undefeated fashion, Kitchee went on and defeated Sun Bus Yuen Long 2:0 in the final round of the premier league, bidding farewell to departing Uruguayan superstar Diego Forlan with a memorable victory. Donning its new kit for the upcoming premier league season, Kitchee failed to seriously threaten the Sun Bus Yuen Long defense in the first-half. As a matter of fact, it was Sun Bus Yuen Long that tested the Kitchee backline, as Everton Camargo pulled the trigger on a low drive around the 28th minute that was spectacularly pushed aside by Kitchee keeper Guo Jianqiao, keeping the game goalless heading into the interval. After the game resumed, it was still Sun Bus Yuen Long that enjoyed the better chances, with Junior Soares and Pang Chiu-yin both knocked on the Kitchee door with dangerous strikes, only to be turned away by Guo Jianqiao once again. Late in the game, Kitchee finally bucked the trend and took the lead, as Paulo Carreiro headed home a Jared Lum cross and lifted the Blues in front. Shortly afterwards, Fernando Pedreira added his name onto the scoresheet and sealed Kitchee’s 2:0 victory on the day. Uruguay superstar Diego Forlan, who was making his farewell appearance in Kitchee colors, graciously extended his well wishes to the Kitchee family before leaving the pitch. “I feel happy to be able to win the premier league title with Kitchee. There are now only two cup finals left for us. It is not going to be easy but hopefully, the team can go on and win more trophies,” Forlan offered. “It has been a great experience to share the games and trainings with all the Kitchee players and fans over the past few months. I am going to miss the team and the fans.” Skipper Lo Kwan-yee admitted Kitchee was only average at best in the final premier league fixture but was glad to see his side buckling down and emerging as the winner at the final whistle, winning the premier league title in undefeated fashion. “We utilized a lot of players who have not been seeing a lot of game-action this season, yet we all kept on fighting, hoping to show everyone that we are indeed capable performers,” Lo stated. “I am thankful that we managed to go on and finished the premier league fixtures with a victory, staying undefeated throughout while picking up the premier league title.”
