Kitchee Made 5:1 Comeback to Win First Sapling Cup

Kitchee faced Eastern at Mongkok Stadium on 9th October (Sunday) for the Sapling Cup Group B fixture. After conceding first, Kitchee bounced back with a brace from Mikael Severo and Dejan Damjanović, along with Michail Manias’ debut goal to complete a 5:1 comeback and the third consecutive win in all competitions this season.

The U-22 Sohgo Ichikawa, Tsang Yi Hang Ellison, and Chang Kwong Yin started in the match, while Academy graduate Law Tsz Chun captained the team for the first time. Kitchee conceded first in the 7th minute from a corner, but Mikael picked up a pass from Ruslan Mingazov and calmly chipped over the goalkeeper 2 minutes later to equalise for the team. A long shot from outside the box by Damjanović in the 28th minute gave Kitchee the lead before half time.

Mingazov’s pressing in the front forced a defensive error as Eastern conceded a penalty, which was converted by Damjanović in the 65th minute. 5 minutes later, Cleiton’s crossing found Mikael whose header gave the host a 4:1 lead. Manias came off the bench in the second half as the debutant scored a diving header from Mikael’s cross in stoppage to complete a 5:1 rout. After this first win in the Sapling Cup, Kitchee has now won 3 games in a row in all competitions.
