Kitchee started the new premier league season with a bang on Saturday afternoon with a 4:0 victory against Yuen Long in front of its passionate home supporters. The home side gained a two-goal advantage in the first-half from two wonderful headers by striker Jorge Tarres. Forward Paulo Carreiro added another goal in the second-half while Tarres completed his hat-trick late in the game and helped powered his team to a four-goal victory against the visiting New Territories side. Kitchee head coach Abraham Garcia was quick to offer praise to his hard-fought troops after the game. “It is a wonderful feeling to net four goals, keep a clean sheet and record a win in the season opener. We were a bit conservative at the start of the game but after the first goal went in, we slowly took over the game. It has been a long preseason for us and after lots of hard work and training, I think the team really deserves this win,” said the Kitchee chief. Hat-trick hero Jorge Tarres maintains Kitchee’s three points are much more important than his own hat-trick accomplishment. “The season opener is never an easy match and the playing surface actually slowed down our speed during the game, making life difficult for us especially in the attacking third. I am glad we found a way through that and secure a positive result at the end,” said the veteran striker. Kitchee captain Lo Kwan-yee hopes the victory against Yuen Long can be a healthy boost to teammates’ form and morale. “Maybe it is still early into the season but we started the game a bit underperforming. The coaching staff did a fantastic job coming up with a very solid game-plan and I think for the most part, we executed what they wanted us to do. Winning the season opener 4:0 is a great start and I hope we can continue this trend,” said Lo.
