Kitchee further consolidates its second position in the BOCG Life Hong Kong Premier League standing on Wednesday night by defeating Kwoon Chung Southern at home through a 2:0 victory. Kitchee and Kwoon Chung Southern both came up with scoring chances early in the game but somehow failed to capitalize. It was not until midway through the first half that Kitchee found a way to breakdown the Kwoon Chung Southern defense. On the 22nd minute, Lam Ka-wai’s corner-kick from the right-side was headed backwards by former Kitchee player Chan Cham-hei. The ball then sailed towards the back-post and went into the net, putting Kitchee in front all the way towards the half time interval. Kwoon Chung Southern had a few half-decent chances to break even in the second half but most of them were long-shots at best. Kitchee managed to seal the visitors’ fate late in the game through a Sham Kwok-keung wonder strike, making it 2:0 in the process. Goal scorer Sham Kwok-keung acknowledges the goal will be a timely boost for his own form and confidence. “I have not played much this season and my form is only around 50 to 60%, making this goal all the more important for me. However, I want to stress that this is definitely a team effort and I would not be able to do it without my teammates. Hopefully, the goal can lift my form and confidence, allowing me to assist the team in both the AFC Cup and domestic circuits,” said Sham in the post-game media scrum. Pocket-rocket Christian Annan points out Kitchee’s form is currently on the rise and hopes team results will improve as well. “We know very well where we stand in the premier league but we never give up on the fight, staying positive all along in every challenge that we face. Maybe it took a while for the team to finally gel but sometimes, that is how football goes. As Kitchee players, we just need to focus on bringing our own contributions to the table. There is simply no other way around it,” said the veteran.
