afternoon by defeating KMB Yuen Long at home through a 2:0 victory, collecting maximum points and taking up sole position at the summit of the premier league table. KMB Yuen Long started the game strong and gave Kitchee a run for its money early in the game, creating chances after chances. Thankfully for the Blues, goalkeeper Guo Jianqiao was solid in net and kept the game scoreless. Afterwards, Kitchee managed to gain composure and started laying siege towards the KMB Yuen Long goal, with Helio Goncalves’ header hitting the crossbar and Rufino Segovia’s shot rejected by the goal-post. Kitchee applied several changes in the second half, tried to bolster its attack and almost reaped immediate rewards. Unfortunately, Rufino Segovia’s missile in the penalty box was sensationally stopped by the KMB Yuen Long keeper, while Marcos De La Espada somehow missed an open-goal opportunity moments later. Late in the match, Kitchee finally broke the game open, as Alessandro Leonardo’s low cross was fired home by Rufino Segovia in the front-post, putting the Blues in front. Deep in stoppage time, Alessandro Leonardo displayed great vision again and picked out Alexander Akane in the box, allowing the latter to drill the ball home, sealing Kitchee’s victory. Despite missing a large part of Kitchee’s preseason training due to injury, goal-scorer Rufino Segovia’s scoring touch does not seem to have deserted the Kitchee marksman. “I only started proper training eleven days ago but I am feeling much better now. Playing ninety minutes is still a tall order for me at this point but I am sure things will get better as the season progresses,” offered the Spanish sharp-shooter. “As a team, this is a very hard-fought victory. We created lots of chances in the first half but did not capitalize at all. But it is OK, as it only takes one goal to win the game.” Kitchee has left things late in two consecutive games but goal-scorer Alexander Akande believes it is up to the players to fully execute the coaches’ game plan. “The coaches set up their game plan but it is up to us players to get on the pitch and execute them, making the right decisions at the right time,” Akande said. “For me personally, scoring two goals in two games is a testament to my hard work but at the same time, I need to thank my teammates for putting their trust on me and creating scoring chances for me.”
