After reclaiming the leading position in the premier league standing and advancing to the FA Cup quarter-final, Kitchee will move on to its next target in sight by taking on Wofoo Tai Po in the Senior Shield semi-final, hoping to advance to the finale. The match will kick-off at 3:00pm in Mongkok Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Kitchee actually faced Wofoo Tai Po earlier this month in an away fixture in the premier league program, with the Blues coming out victorious through a 1:0 score line, courtesy of a Lam Ka-wai match-winner. Kitchee rested several of its regulars earlier this week in the FA Cup first round match to ensure its players will stay fresh for the weekend’s Senior Shield battle, as the Blues are desperate to make its way back to the final for the first time since the 2014-2015 season, and for the opportunity to reclaim the historical trophy since winning it all in the 2005-2006 campaign. Rested in midweek’s FA Cup first round battle, Kitchee midfielder Huang Yang will likely resume his starting position in the Senior Shield semi-final. Huang comments that the weekend clash will take place in the familiar Mongkok Stadium instead of Tai Po Sports Ground, making the upcoming game vastly different to the Blues’ earlier win against the New Territories side. “Mongkok Stadium is great for our ground attack and possession game. We are more confident playing in Mongkok Stadium and our players are all highly experienced in cup tournaments. Wofoo Tai Po suffered a 1:5 loss against South China earlier and maybe its players will be a bit down psychologically. Our players are definitely well rested and well prepared for this game,” Huang reveals. Left-wing Fernando Pedreira stresses Kitchee will be 100% percent ready for the Senior Shield semi-final clash against Wofoo Tai Po. “We have not won the Senior Shield for a long time and we will give everything that we have to fight for the trophy. Wofoo Tai Po’s five-man defensive unit will be a challenge for us wingers but if we want to win the trophy, we will need to go for goals no matter what team we come up against or what defenders we will be facing. We need to fight for goals regardless and force our way to the final,” the Brazilian states ahead of the game. Pedreira also claims when the Wofoo Tai Po full-backs push forward to attack, that becomes the perfect time for Kitchee to launch its own counter-attack, as additional space will appear. Going head-to-head against Wofoo Tai Po centre-backs is also something Kitchee should avoid, as the Blues will fare much better with its proven short, passing, dribbling game.
