At the Quarter-final of the Senior Shield on 22nd October (Sat) at the Mong Kok Stadium, Kitchee scored a late equaliser to force the match to extra time and won 4:1 against Southern.
The team’s attack was met with dangerous counterattacks from Southern as Hélio was called to make a goaline clearance early in the match. Cleiton had a chance to take the lead in the first half but his shot was also cleared off the line by the defender.
While Kitchee kept searching for a goal, it was Southern who would score from a counterattack in the 78th minute. Trailing and facing elimination, the team’s effort finally paid off as Hélio and Mikael’s shots were blocked and hit the crossbar respectively, before Dejan Damjanović scored from the rebound and equalised for the team, taking the match to extra time.
Cleiton’s pinpoint pass helped Damjanović score and give Kitchee the lead in the 96th minute. Ruslan Mingazov’s goal in the 105th minute and Damjanović’s third goal of the day in the second half of extra time helped the team round off an excellent 4:1 comeback and advance to the Semi-finals.
